Excellent book! I’m at the stage where I recognize systemic racism and have learned about some of the struggles faced by students of color (and faculty! and staff!) in math, but I wasn’t sure what to do about it. Reading this helped me take some action! It’s structured in a really useful way, with thought-provoking “workbook” questions before and after each chapter. I’ve now lent out my copy to a colleague and will recommend it to my network of peers.

This book is a great follow up to the first book, " Asked and Answered". This book gives actionable and practical steps that faculty can take to support students of color in mathematics classrooms. This book is done through storytelling from various faculty of steps they took, how it worked, and why they did it. While each individual story is not going to work for everybody, there are so many stories that there will be something that will work. You do not have to read the first book to find great value in Practices and Policies, but if you are someone heavily invested in trying to do the work, then I would suggest getting both.

This book is broken up into dialogues, and one of the reasons I love this book is its thoughtful pre- and post-dialogue reflections. If you are committed to supporting students of color in your math department, this is a practical and worthy book to work through. The authors have created an incredible resource for the community, and I can't recommend it highly enough! Text to make it yours.
